POTS Interface Testing
|

|
The RT-2X audio analyzer is a telecom tester optimized for high-level voice-band quality end-of-line tests on a production line.
The flexible 2-channel architecture and its outstanding speed (typical cycle time < 0.5 s) make RT-2X the ideal solution for comprehensively testing of:
- Line cards & modems
- Wired analog or digital telephone sets
- Telephone handsets
RT-2X is based on the multitone approach that allows simultaneously executing up to seven voice-band measurements by transmitting only a single test burst. This principle makes the RT-2X system ideally suited for high-volume production testing of telecom devices.
Additionally the LCL/RL option has been specifically tailored to access POTS devices and to execute standard POTS measurements at a COT (Central Office Terminal) or RT (Remote Terminal).

Line Cards & Modem Testing

RT-2X supports line card testing with digital access on one end and an analog POTS breakout on the other end. The digital access is normally established via one of the supported RT-2X digital interfaces – T1, E1, J1 or raw PCM data. The analog interface TIP and RING can be connected directly to the input & output of RT-2X.
RT-2X fulfills Bellcore TR57 standards, defining analog transmission criteria's, including full- and half-channel measurements.
RT-2X supports the following measurements:
- Channel Crosstalk (A-D, D-A)
- Echo Return Loss
- Frequency Offset
- Frequency Response (D-D, A-D, D-A)
- Idle Channel Noise
- Intermodulation Distortion
- Longitudinal Conversion Loss (A-A)
- Longitudinal Transfer Conversion Loss (A-A, A-D, D-A)
- Overload Compression (A-D, D-A)
- Return Loss
- Signal to Distortion
- Singing Return Loss
- Total Loss (D-D, A-D, D-A)
- Transhybrid Loss (D-D)
- Transmit & Receive Level (D-D, A-D, D-A)

The ISDN option of RT-2X comprises an ISDN S0 bus interface. Typically, it is used for the analysis of the D-A or A-D voice transmission quality of ISDN telephone sets in production. The multitone burst is sent out e.g. on the ISDN S0 bus, converted by the ISDN device into an analog signal and analyzed by RT-2X (or vice versa).
Standard electrical measurements are:
- DTMF Tones
- Frequency Response (D-D, A-D, D-A)
- Idle Channel Noise
- Longitudinal Conversion Loss (A-A)
- Return Loss
- Signal to Distortion
- Total Loss (D-D, A-D, D-A)

RT-2X is perfectly suited for executing acoustical voice-band tests of handsets or base stations including speakers and microphones. RT-2X includes a built-in microphone power supply (Phantom power) that allows directly plugging a measuring microphone to the RT-2X input.
The NTi Audio PureSound™ option allows 100% reliable Rub and Buzz detection. This unique approach unveils all kinds of audible defects within minimum time. Furthermore, by using an artificial ear and mouth, Loudness Rating tests according to ITU-T P.79 can be executed accordingly.
An acoustical quality test typically comprises the following measurements:
- Frequency Response
- Loudness Rating (SRL, RLR, STMR) according to ITU-T P.79
- Microphone Sensitivity
- Rub & Buzz, i.e. audible transducer defects
- Sound Pressure Level (SPL)
