LESS NOISE. MORE SOUND

Data Analysis for XL2 Analyzer

Overview

The XL2 stores all data and audio onto the SD card for direct transfer to the computer. Audio data is stored as .wav files. Data reports and log files are stored in plain text format, which can be opened with any text editor (Notepad, Wordpad, etc). The data is tab-delimited, so dropping the .txt file into a spreadsheet application will conveniently show the results in columns.

Furthermore a series of free MS Excel application templates provide a convenient way to view the measurement results of specific tasks and create simple reports.

For the most comprehensive analysis of logged noise monitoring data, use the XL2 Data Explorer software. The data import into the software is enabled by the Data Explorer Option or the annual subscription service Data Explorer 365.

The XL2 Sound Insulation software provides standard reports for Airborne and Impact sound insulation measurements. The data import into the software is enabled by the Sound Insulation Option or the annual subscription service Sound Insulation Reporter 365.

Introduction to XL2 Data Explorer

Features

Chart View

The chart view shows the logged levels, markers, audio player, spectrogram and frequency spectrum.

XL2 Data Explorer

Select Multiple Levels

A drop down menu allows you to select the individual levels. All selected noise levels are displayed in the chart. Select one or more, or a range of one-third octave bands for display against time.

XL2 Data Explorer

Zoom and Pan

Extremely fast zoom and pan response over the entire data log period, even for very large data sets.

XL2 Data Explorer

Markers

Mark areas of interest in the graph with a text description. Choose "Include Markers" for calculations of contributions by specific noise sources, enabling simple source ranking. Eliminate unwanted noise sources from your final result using "Exclude Markers". The marked areas are summed and appear in your report.

XL2 Data Explorer

Level Statistics

XL2 Data Explorer offers a detailed statistical analysis of the logged sound level measurement data. The percentiles can be calculated for wide band levels as well as 1/1 and 1/3 octave band levels. Data Explorer calculates the level statistics of the complete measurement or marked time periods as part of the post-measurement analysis. Excluded periods are considered.

XL2 Data Explorer Level Statistics 100Hz

Day-Night-Level

The XL2 Data Explorer calculates the levels Lden, Ldn, Lday, Levening, Lnight with individual weightings (penalties).

XL2 Data Explorer

Result View

The tabular representation shows all results in a structured and intuitive way, detailing the original recorded results, summaries of the areas marked for exclusion and inclusion, and the final result. The results can be exported to EXCEL.

XL2 Data Explorer Audio

Audit Intervals

The noise level data is divided in measurement intervals with selectable length of 5, 10, 15, 30 or 60 minutes. The corresponding levels of these audit intervals are calculated and presented in the chart and result view.

XL2 Data Explorer

Audio

Audio recordings are time-aligned to the graphs. Listen to the recordings for a more objective analysis of the noise sources with manual or automatic gain control.

Data Explorer Option

In order to import data from your XL2 Sound Level Meter to the Data Explorer PC-Software, the Data Explorer Option needs to be purchased and installed on each XL2 analyzer that will use it. Data which has been recorded prior the installation of the Data Explorer Option may then also be imported. The Data Explorer software can then be installed on an unlimited number of computers in order to analyze this imported data.

Data Explorer 365

An annual subscription service is offered as an alternative to the Data Explorer Option. The purchase of a Data Explorer 365 subscription allows the unlimited import of measurement data from one XL2 Sound Level Meter into the Data Explorer PC-Software for a period of one year.

Evaluation

You may download the Data Explorer PC software with demo data for evaluation here.

Software

The XL2 Data Explorer software can be installed on multiple computers. This provides consultants with the freedom to distribute their measurement projects among team members and clients.

Technical Requirements

The software is compatible with Windows XP, Vista, 7, 8 Pro, 8.1 Pro, 10 and requires a video board with a shader-model 3.0 or higher (DirectX 9.0 c).

Customer Comments

I Love It
“The XL2 is currently the world’s most versatile hand-held acoustic and audio analyser. I can do so much with it, and just love it! And in many ways, the associated Data Explorer software is much more versatile and easier to use than other leading industry equivalents.”
Glenn Leembruggen,
Acoustic Directions
, Australia

Very Simple to Use
"I must say that the instrument and the software are brilliant, and very simple to use, even for an old fogey like me."
Owen Clingan, UK

Better price with more versatility
"I am happy that you keep on developing new applications and uses for the XL2, it is quite a convenient and powerful tool. In my opinion it is a serious competition for the traditional sound level meters at a better price and with more versatility. The Type Approval is an important step forward in the acceptation of the system; even in situations where type approval is not really needed, it helps avoiding discussions on the validity of the measurements."
Ben Kok, www.benkok.com, Netherlands

XL2 Data Explorer Software
"With regards to analyzing the recorded noise data: The idea of hovering over the marker text or locking the set of them is absolutely brilliant for assessing the tonality of a marked section. I could not have thought of a better system. And the percentile calculator letting you choose any marker, filter band or level parameter is just perfect."
Jason Dixon, www.instrulabs.com.au, Australia
