From now on, the XL2-TA Sound Level Meter and Acoustic Analyzer can also be used as a permanent outdoor measuring station. The latest Firmware version V4.21 is type-approved by the Physikalisch-Technische Bundesanstalt (PTB) in Braunschweig. The type-approval also covers accessories, such as the WP30 Weather Protection kit for the class 1 M2230 microphone. The free Firmware update also provides improvements for building acoustics and consultants.

The new XL2-TA: even more versatile and comprehensive
There are many fields of application for the XL2-TA. The meter can be used with a measurement microphone directly plugged-in, extended on the cable, or in the weatherproof housing. All of these configurations are type-approved in Germany, Austria and Switzerland. The system complies with the extensive requirements of class 1 accuracy, as listed in the current IEC 61672-1, IEC 61260 and DIN 45657 standards.

Special practical attention was also paid to outdoor measurement applications; the noise measuring station can be transported in an all-weather suitcase affording IP65 or IP43 protection class. Alternatively, it can be permanently installed outdoors in a weatherproof measuring cabinet, for example on a light pole or on a house wall.

What's new with the WP30 Weather Protection?
The WP30 Weather Protection kit for outdoor use has been further developed within the scope of the new type-approval certificate. Among other things, PTB tested conformity with horizontal and vertical sound incidence. In order to achieve precise outdoor sound level measurements with class 1 accuracy, all assembly tolerances are specified. The new bird spike is marked with the designation engraving BS01. Customers using older bird spikes can receive a new BS01, upon request, free of charge.

Which components make up the XL2-TA outdoor noise measurement station?
The type-approved XL2-TA Sound Level Meter consists of the basic unit, the M2230 microphone, the TA option and one of the sound pressure calibrators listed in the type-approval certificate. Further information can be found here.

What's new in this latest free firmware update?
Besides the accessory configuration options having been improved with the new version of the XL2-TA, the new firmware V4.21 offers a whole package of functional extensions. These include:

• extended data management when using 32 GB memory cards
• optimized triggering in the reverberation time measurement
• NoiseScout function allows you to listen to audio snippets on your PC or with your mobile phone in the event of autonomous noise monitoring: The meter is connected to the mobile network with the NetBox accessory
• Selection of correction curves for horizontal or vertical sound incidence in connection with the WP30 Weather Protection

The new firmware also supports numerous options for use in building and room acoustics as well as in live sound and vibration measurement. All options are recorded in the type-approval, stored on the device and can be unlocked if required.
