The Exel Building Acoustics Kit consists of the omnidirectional loudspeaker and power amplifier as well as the PC-software required for professional airborne, impact and facade sound insulation measurements. All measurements are performed in accordance with the standards.

Field measurement of Sound Insulation in Buildings and of Building Elements

The portable building acoustics kit is ideally suited for use at the customer site. With only 7.5 kg and a typical sound power of 120.5 dB, the DS3 dodecahedron speaker facilitates work on the construction site - an omni-directional, flat acoustic frequency spectrum is produced. The XL2 Sound Level Meter measures the noise spectrum in the sending and receiving room and the reverberation time. The standard-compliant measurement report can be generated immediately on site with the "Sound Insulation Reporter" PC software in accordance with the standard.

XL2 Analyzer for Building Acoustics


Spectrum Analyzer
The XL2 Sound Level Meter measures the noise spectrum in the sending and receiving room. The level difference forms the base of the sound insulation calculation. Additionally a background noise spectrum recorded in the receiving room (without the test signal) allows for a noise correction.

RT60 Reverberation Time
The level difference between two rooms needs to be corrected for any influence of the reverberation time in the receiving room. The reverberation time is measured by the XL2 in 1/1 octave resolution (or in 1/3 octave resolution with the optional XL2 Extended Acoustics Pack installed). The RT60 measurement offers automated triggering for repeated tests using an impulse or gated pink noise as signal source.


Sound Insulation Reporter Software


XL2 Sound Insulation Reporter is a PC-based software application that provides all the standard reports for Airborne, Impact and Facade sound insulation measurements. Designed for acoustic consultants, this comprehensive tool uses data gathered by the XL2 Acoustic Analyzer, and returns graphical analysis of all measurement positions.

Additionally, the software offers the ability to acquire real-time data; two or more XL2 Sound Level Meters may be controlled directly by the software. This allows simultaneous wireless measurement in both the sending and receiving room onsite; saving time. To enable this real-time acquisition of data, the Sound Insulation Reporter software requires that the connected XL2s also have an activated Remote Measurement Option installed. The Sound Insulation Option enables the import of XL2 measurement data into the XL2 Sound Insulation Reporter software.

Laboratory measurement of sound insulation of building elements according to ISO 10140

The Building Acoustics Kit offers also a professional solution for measurements in a test facility. The sound insulation measurement of construction materials according to ISO 10140 is fully supported. This makes it possible to compare the sound insulation properties of building material components and to predict the real-world behavior in the finished building. The measurements can be started remotely on the computer and evaluated in the Sound Insulation Reporter software. Also, the test signal on the Dodecahedron Speaker DS3 starts and stops automatically; In addition, the DS3 offers a constant output level for a long time, thus it’s is ideally built for extensive and precise measurements in the test bench.
