Microphone Test Solution

The turnkey microphone test solution provides an extensive test with short test cycle times. The solution is provided by the FX100 and operated via the RT-MicFX software. It provides a comprehensive set of measurements for the quality control of microphone components or assembled products, such as mobile phone microphones, headsets or pro audio microphones.

Turn-key Solution

The design of the FX100 Audio Analyzer follows the key requirements for production testing: Flexibility, speed and ease of integration.

Flexibility

The scalable hardware concept allows customization of the FX100 hardware according to the individual requirements. Plug-in options offer full flexibility such as additional measuring channels, input and output switchers or impedance measurement modules. The audio analyzer grows with the application for manually-operated and fully-automated production lines.

Measurement Speed

Fast GlideSweeps obtain all relevant measurement results from one short stimulus, typically less than a second. The FX100 has been optimized for factory noise immunity and high volume production. The sequence mode provides automated measurement of customized test sequences including Pass/Fail decision.


Ease of Integration

The FX100 Audio Analyzer bridges the demands of QC engineering for using the same instrument in R&D, sample inspection and on the production floor. Individual application projects may be transferred around the globe for fast setup.

Automation

All measurement data may be logged for detailed manufacturing control. The built-in digital I/O interface connects to peripheral devices, such as a foot switch or a stack light.

Polar Plot

The polar plot analysis with the NTi Audio precision turntable complements the microphone measurement system to an all-in-one solution. The polar diagram displays the directional characteristic related to the measurement frequency of the microphone. For detailed analysis, the measurement angles can be set to a resolution of less than 1°.

The high-speed FX100 Audio Analyzer generates a series of fast sweep signals, covering the complete audio band of interest, and the turntable TT01 rotates the microphone to the configured angles between the sweeps. The measurement time can be halved by choosing the 180° mode, which mirrors the polar image. The polar plot graphics can be adjusted after the completed measurement, thus the microphone test system offers full flexibility for post-processing.

FX100 Configuration One Microphone

Setup with 1x Microphone

This setup verifies single microphones in a basic test environment. The sound source is equalized for a flat frequency response using a reference measurement microphone.

Procedure:

  • Calibrate and equalize the sound source by using the reference measurement microphone M2010
  • Start microphone measurements with the equalized sound source

FX100 Configuration Two Microphone

Setup with 1x Microphone and 1x Reference Microphone

This setup verifies single microphones in a test environment with equalized sound source and reference microphone. The measurement provides results relative to the reference measurement microphone, thus the results are immune to any changes in the environment such as temperature or humidity.

Procedure:
  • Calibrate and equalize the sound source by using the permanently-installed NTi Audio reference microphone M2010
  • Start microphone measurements with the equalized sound source and the reference microphone M2010

FX100 Configuration Multiple Microphone

Setup for Multiple Microphones with Switcher

This setup verifies several single microphones in a sequence.

Procedure:
  • Calibrate and equalize the sound source by using the NTi Audio reference measurement microphone M2010
  • Start microphone measurement sequence with IS-1002 audio input switcher

FX100 Configuration Turntable

Turntable Setup for Polar Pattern Measurement

This setup records the polar plot of a single microphone on a turntable in a test stand with equalized speaker.

Procedure:
  • Calibrate the SPL of the sound source by using the NTi Audio reference measurement microphone M2010
  • Start automated polar pattern measurement with equalized sound source
