Noise Nuisance Recording System

The NNR system is designed to offer efficient and intuitive investigation of noise nuisance complaints with precision grade Class 1 measurements and web-based connectivity for the installed equipment.
- Precision-grade noise measurements with Class 1 sound level meter
- 24/7 remote access to monitor and retrieve noise data via a web browser
- Legal-grade compliance with traceable or UKAS calibration for court proceedings
Technical Features
At the heart of the NNR system is the model XL3 Class 1 sound level meter. This instrument offers the latest in hand-held technologies including:
- High-resolution colour touch screen display for ease of use
- A single 120dB measurement range minimising measurement overloads
- Uncompressed high quality sound recordings for identifying noise sources
- Large 32Gb data storage capacity on a removeable micro-SD card, PACE compliant
- Frequency spectra is also measured to help in assessing bass in music and other frequency-based nuisance characteristics.
- Class 1 and Type Approved precision grade measurement to BS EN 61672:2013 sound level meter standard.
The XL3 with traceable or UKAS calibration therefore offers unquestionable measurement integrity in support of legal proceedings, eviction notices and entertainment licensing.

Remote Access and Monitoring
The unique benefit of the NNR system is that it offers 24/7 remote access with the equipment while installed in the complainant’s property. Connectivity with the NNR system is via any standard web browser on a PC, Smartphone or Tablet which means no proprietary or ‘IT approved software’ is required to take advantage of this valuable facility. Note, the NNR system can of course also be used off-line as a standard noise nuisance recorder
The key benefits of remote access to the installed equipment include:
- Reassurance anytime, day or night, that the NNR system is operating correctly
- Ability to correct instrument setup errors remotely
- Verifying that the complainant has successfully made a number of recordings
- Download and review noise measurements and recordings while the equipment is still installed at the complainant’s property
- Smart decision making on when the equipment can be retrieved and thereby optimising equipment deployment
- Live access to the on-going noise survey from your smartphone or PC using a standard web browser.

Noise Event Recording and User Control
The system when installed continually logs the prevailing noise levels and the complainant activates a sound recording using the hand switch when disturbed by a noise event. This ensures that the complainant is in full control of when sound recordings are made.
The hand switch can be used to trigger audio recordings of 30 seconds, 1 minute, 2 minutes or 5 minutes duration with a pre-trigger facility of between 5 seconds and 30 seconds which records sound up to 30 seconds before the button was pressed. The pre-trigger facility is important in recording door slams, shouting, cars revving and other short duration high level events.

Data Analysis and Reporting
The all-important review and reporting of noise measurements and recordings is carried out using the Data Explorer PC software offering a quick and easy assessment of the noise levels during the replay of recordings or for comparison of nuisance levels with the normal background levels in the absence of noise events.
This PC software also offers the inclusion of comments by the investigating officer relating to one or more noise events and the facility to share one or more sound recordings in an e-mail sent to colleagues, the complainant, the perpetrator of the noise or indeed any other third party.
