NoiseScout provides a comprehensive but easy-to-use 24/7 noise monitoring solution. Noise levels are recorded on-site by the Sound Level Meter and are available for remote monitoring and download. NoiseScout is aimed at both short term noise assessments and long term monitoring applications.
NoiseScout offers the freedom to start and stop the remote noise monitoring from your office or mobile device providing total flexibility in meeting your project requirements. During acquisition, automated email alerts allow noise issues to be addressed before a non-compliance condition arises. The remote access to the noise monitoring station is offered in two selectable modes, the ‘Managed Mode’ or the ‘Gateway Mode’.
NoiseScout displays the noise levels measured by the Sound Level Meter live in your web browser. The measurement data recorded out in the field is presented online in charts and dashboards. Multiple noise level meters can be monitored simultaneously within the map view, thus providing localized geographic visualization for all noise levels at a glance. Identified users can access all their projects, control their monitors or create basic view modes, allowing stakeholders to oversee their noise level data.
The Sound Level Meter is configured remotely. The NoiseScout monitoring solution reports compliance violations and data connection irregularities by email. Audio recordings of the periods with the highest sound level, as well as the ability to listen to live audio, assists with the identification of causes of noise. From this information, preliminary reports can be generated while the measurement continues. This facilitates quick responses to noise issues so that they are addressed before a non-compliance condition arises.
No data will be lost if communication to the NoiseScout Servers is interrupted. Measurement data is buffered for transmission at source on the XL2 Sound Level Meter. In case of any lost connection, the NetBox will synchronize the recorded data to the NoiseScout Servers as soon as communication is re-established. The NoiseScout Servers are built on a scalable architecture and the latest secure data center technology. The server network provides access to your data quickly and reliably.
NTi Audio manages and maintains the data synchronization and data storage for your convenience. This service is offered within an innovative “pay-per-use” credit scheme, providing transparent and predictable cost control. Usage is based on calendar days contained within the measurement data transferred from the XL2 Sound Level Meter to the server. Alternatively an annual subscription service is available.
The direct access to the XL2 Sound Level Meter is available around the world. The internet connection allows SFTP (Secure File Transfer Protocol) and remote access to the XL2. This offers the freedom to start and stop the online noise monitoring from your office or your mobile device; a useful tool for complete control.
All data files can then be retrieved remotely from remote XL2 Sound Level Meter even during an ongoing measurement. Also, the spectral data and audio files can be directly downloaded from the remote XL2.
The XL View displays noise levels in large size in your preferred web browser on a mobile device, computer or large monitor screen. Levels are presented with a pre-warning amber or alarming red color in case preset limits are exceeded. A view-only link may be forwarded to stake holders for their online monitoring.
The remote access allows full control of the XL2 Sound Level Meter. All remote measurement commands available on the XL2 are supported. For example, the current measurement data may be captured in real time into a computer application, e.g. C#, MS Excel or LabView. You may program a customized measurement application for remote sound level monitoring, audio analysis or automated measurement tasks.
NTi Audio manages and facilitates remote access to the XL2 Sound Level Meter for your convenience. The offered infrastructure overcomes the limitations of local area networks and avoids the necessity for you to set up a router with a direct connection from the NetBox to your PC. The remote access is offered within an innovative “pay-per-use” credit scheme, providing transparent and predictable cost control. Usage is charged per calendar day with remote data download from the XL2 Sound Level Meter. Alternatively an annual subscription service is available.
NoiseScout utilizes AI-based noise classification techniques to automatically categorize different types of noise, allowing users to quickly and easily identify sources of excessive noise and take appropriate actions. The system can distinguish between different classes of noise, such as speech, machinery, traffic, and others, providing valuable insights for noise management.
How it works
NoiseScout classifies different noises with scores that indicate how reliably they can be assigned to one of the defined categories. The score is not simply a percentage number. There is a rather complex algorithm used to determine a score. It involves a pre-trained (pre-loaded) system with a set of classifications. The best matches are then found, and the score is calculated based on how many of the different categories are recognized in the 10-second wave file.
A low score by no means indicates that the result is not accurate, rather that there are other classifications that matched, and while they not score as high, they did reduce the other scores. Also, there are sometimes super-classifications that score higher.
In the following example, ...
Vehicle
Rail Transport
Train
60
25
24
… the AI may classify a specific sound as being a Train, while, at the same time,
classifying it with a higher score as being a form of Rail transport (which a train
certainly is), and finally more generally, and with the highest score, as a type of
Vehicle (which rail transport certainly is). In this example we can deduce that the
sound was created by a train.
Using AI in the NoiseScout system helps streamline the noise measurement and analysis
process, making it more efficient and effective.

Weather Station
Rain, strong wind and the wind direction can influence the outdoor sound pressure level to be measured. Connect a weather station to your noise measurement station to simultaneously record the noise level and the weather data. Depending on the weather station model used, air pressure, temperature, air humidity, rain, wind speed and wind direction are documented. NoiseScout supports the Vaisala models WXT532, WXT533 and WXT536.

NoiseScout provides reliable on-site sound level measurements. The power supply is monitored and low voltage levels of any connected external battery pack are reported. Immediate action to facilitate uninterrupted measurements can thus be taken. In case of an external power loss, the XL2 Sound Level Meter will continue measuring using its internal battery. Once the internal battery too is exhausted, as soon as power is restored, the XL2 will restart automatically and carry on with the measurement.
NoiseScout further maximizes the success of the survey by reducing the time spent preparing the client report. All data can be exported to the optional Data Explorer PC software for detailed analysis. The NoiseScout system leaves the consultant free to concentrate on their key responsibilities, such as producing the client report, even before the Sound Level Meter has been collected from site.
XL2 Sound Level Meter with NetBox
The NetBox takes noise measurement data recorded by the XL2 Sound Level Meter and makes it available online. The noise monitor may be connected via 3G, 4G, 5G, LAN or Wi-Fi (an external modem is required for 4G/5G).
The powerful Sound Level Meter is complemented with an outdoor microphone and weather protected enclosures for portable and permanent installations. The outdoor measurement systems are flexible in their configuration to perfectly fit your requirements for unattended noise monitoring or noise nuisance assessment.
The WP30 Weather Protection is a professional outdoor weather protection kit for the M2230 or M2340 microphone. Together they form a robust outdoor measurement microphone. The corrosion-free polymer housing, wind screen, water-repellent membrane and bird spike provide excellent protection from rain, wind, dust and perching birds. It is dedicated for precise acquisition of environmental noise data in outdoor applications.

I’ve been using the XL2 for over 15 years for short-term and long-term measurements in all kinds of indoor and outdoor environments all across the country. The meter gets me what I want, when I need it. It’s not only the best value for acoustical measurements, it’s the best tool period. I bet my company and reputation on XL2 results and it has not let me down. You would be crazy not to consider adding NTi instruments to your toolkit.

We at Constructure GmbH use two XL3 sound level meters for noise monitoring during demolition work. We are very satisfied with these highly user-friendly instruments, the online monitoring in the MeasurEye Cloud, the good advice and qualified support. Factory calibrations at NTi Audio are also handled very smoothly and without complications.
