Building Acoustics Test Solution

The XL2 Analyzer provides the handheld solution for airborne and structure-borne sound insulation measurements, speech intelligibility and room acoustics. Noise levels and reverberation time are measured in accordance with ISO 16283 and ISO 140.

The XL2 offers detailed evaluation of the acoustic room response with spectral measurements with up to 1/12 octave resolution and a high resolution Zoom-FFT. The wav-file recording support the measurement of the impulse response for offline calculations.

Sound Pressure Level SPL

The XL2 measures the sound insulation between rooms or indoor-outdoor areas. The impact sound insulation, e.g. footsteps, is measured by using a tapping machine. The level difference between two rooms might be corrected with the influence of the background noise in the receiving room.

Real Time Analyzer RTA

The real time analyzer measures the actual acoustic spectrum for sound insulation verification depending on the frequency. The sound insulation is measured at different room positions in 1/1 or 1/3 octave band resolution. The averaged result provides a single number insulation index.

RT60 Reverberation Time

The level difference between two rooms needs to be corrected with any influence of the reverberation time in the receiving room. The reverberation time measurement in 1/1 or optional 1/3 octave resolution offers automated triggering for repeated tests using an impulse signal or gated pink noise as signal source.

Speech Intelligibility STIPA (optional)

The XL2 measures the speech intelligibility of public announcement systems according to IEC 60268-16.

Dodec Speaker DS2
The Dodec Speaker Set provides a powerful signal source for building acoustic measurements. The optimized frequency spectrum delivers a high level of equalized sound energy in accordance with ISO 16283 and ISO 3382. The set includes the robust omnidirectional Dodec Speaker DS2 and the remote controlled power amplifier PA2.

Type Approval Option

The Type Approval Option, when installed on your XL2, upgrades the instrument to the XL2-TA, the sound level meter for certified measurements. The XL2-TA, together with the M2230 microphone and Shroud jacket, forms a type-approved sound level meter offering class 1 performance in accordance with IEC 61672:2014, IEC 61260:2014, ANSI S1.4:2014 and ANSI S1.11:2014 standard.

Minirator MR-PRO Functions


Signal Generator

The Minirator MR-PRO generates wide-band or band-limited pink noise for sound insulation, absorption, privacy and articulation index measurements.

The following test signals support your applications:
  • 32 Hz - 16 kHz in individual octave bands
  • 20 Hz - 20 kHz in individual third-octave bands

The TalkBox is an acoustic signal generator for speech intelligibility measurements in evacuation and announcement systems.

Get the Sound Insulation Reporter Software

Sound Insulation Option

In order to import data from your XL2 Sound Level Meter to the Sound Insulation Reporter PC-Software, the Sound Insulation Option needs to be purchased and installed on each XL2 Analyzer that will use it. Data which has been recorded prior the installation of the Sound Insulation Option may then also be imported. The Sound Insulation Reporter software can then be installed on an unlimited number of computers in order to analyze this imported data.

Sound Insulation Reporter 365

An annual subscription service is offered as an alternative to the Sound Insulation Option. The purchase of a Sound Insulation Reporter 365 subscription allows the unlimited import of measurement data from one XL2 Sound Level Meter into the Sound Insulation PC-Software for a period of one year.

The Sound Insulation Reporter software can be installed on multiple computers. This provides consultants with the freedom to distribute their measurement projects among team members and clients.
