Class 1 Sound Level Meter with Attached Microphone

Class 1 Sound Level Meter with Attached Microphone

The XL2-TA Sound Level Meter has established itself as one of the most popular class 1 measurement instruments worldwide. Its extensive basic functions coupled with the open data format allow for efficient measurements. The extended type approval for operation with an attached microphone, which was recently received in Austria, further increases the value of the instrument.

The XL2-TA Sound level Meter supports a remarkable range of functions. In addition to comprehensive level and audio recording, it also offers 1/3rd octave band analysis. Further, reverberation time measurement and a detailed FFT spectral analysis are also included as standard with the basic instrument. The XL2-TA covers a very wide range of applications - from basic noise measurement to unattended noise monitoring and building acoustics applications.

New dedicated Software Solutions
Berno Nigsch, Project Manager at NTi Audio AG reports, "In the past few months, we have massively expanded the meter with application-oriented measurement data evaluation and reporting. With the Data Explorer software, experts can now quickly determine the critical levels for assessment. The new solutions for determining the sound insulation of partitions and the radiated sound power of products have also been received very positively by customers.”

Type Approved with attached and detached Microphone
With the updated type approval, the Austrian BEV (Bundesamt für Eich- und Vermessungswesen) confirms the XL2-TA as a class 1 sound level meter for legally-binding noise monitoring. The latest standards for sound level meters IEC61672-1:2013 and IEC61260-1:2014 were used as a basis for this. The measuring instrument can be used with a directly-attached measurement microphone M2230 or in the detached microphone mode. The cable lengths 5, 10 and 20 meters were specifically approved for this purpose.

Create Measurement Reports during ongoing Measurements
At the same time, this approval permits the use of the XL2-TA Sound Level Meter for unattended sound level monitoring. The noise levels can be monitored simultaneously at several locations using the NoiseScout web portal. Automatically generated emails inform the user about exceeded limit values at any of the measurement locations. The XL2 is configured via the web portal and operates autonomously. In addition to the graphical data representation in the NoiseScout portal, the logged measurement data can be downloaded at any time. This allows the initial reports to be created while measurement operations continue.

The Type Approval Option extends the XL2 Sound Level Meter to the XL2-TA. Existing XL2 customers can upgrade their meters to an XL2-TA Sound Level Meter by installing this option. The approved firmware V3.11 is available for all XL2-TA customers free of charge for download and installation.
